Athletic Club Achieves Success Despite Lack of Indoor Winter Training Facilities.

Derby Athletic Club has had considerable success over the winter months despite a training setback.

After the demolition of the sports hall at Moorways Stadium, there has not been an indoor training facility in case of bad weather, but the club youngsters managed to win the overall age groups in both the girls and boys sections of Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 15s in three cross county races.

In four races in the North Midlands Cross Country League Derby Athletic Club won all but two of the eight team events.

There were further team successes in the Derbyshire Cross Country Championships at Shipley Park in January. As a result several runners have been invited to represent Derbyshire in the UK Inter-Counties Championships near Loughborough on March 9.

Chair Barry Parker said: “I’m delighted at the success of individuals but particularly teams considering the lack of indoor winter training facilities.

“This success if due to commitment by the athletes with great support from coaches, managers, and parents.”
