Derventio Excel/City of Derby Alumni with Top Performances at World Championships

Several swimmers who came through the programme with either Derventio Excel or City of Derby (who merged to form Derby Excel) have been competing at the World Swimming Championships in Doha.

Adam Peaty had a successful return to racing, winning a bronze medal in 100m breaststroke and a bronze in the mixed 100m medley relay. He was 4th in 50m breaststroke. Adam is coached by former CoD Head Coach Mel Marshall.

Abbie Wood also medalled, winning a silver medal in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay. Abbie was 6th in the 200m individual medley.

Jacob Whittle swam in the heat and final of the mens’ 4 x 100m freestyle relay. The team finished in 4th place, narrowly missing a medal but securing a place at the Olympics in this event.

It was also a highly successful meet for former Derventio Excel Head Coach Andi Manley, now with Loughborough. His swimmer Daniel Wiffen won gold medals in both the 800m and 1500m freestyle.

Congratulations to you all, and good luck at Olympic trials in Stratford in April.
